Block Measurements/ Drafting

After much finagling it took my mother and I an hour to place tape (as markers) on my body and take my measurements.

I'm now sitting in my room exhausted from this ordeal. I know from previous experience that its better to just draft you block in one sitting. Once you start drafting just follow it through. Of course you can stop to take breaks, eat, etc. But I wouldn't stop and then pick up the next day. It was a three page process in my book to get all the measurements needed to draft a basic bodice.
As for drafting... its two pages for the front bodice,

two pages for the back

anddddd a page for increasing/decreasing bust cup.
Because the book's bodice is drafted for a B cup so I will need to increase

Drafting Basic Shirt Block

Ughhhhhhh let me count the ways that I dread drafting a basic block. I have drafted a block for myself once before and it came out pretty good but, the back piece was about 2 inches shorter than the front. So instead of fixing the block I screamed at my mother (who took the measurements I couldn't) and tossed it in the trash... Oh how much do I regret that move right now? But anyway I broke out my Patter Making for Fashion Design book by Helen Joesph-Armstrong this morning.

I made a Word document to keep track of all my measurement like the chart in the book. So this way don't have to write in my book. Yes its mines but I just hate writing in my books.

So when all is said and done I should have a block that looks something like this...

I found a much simpler way of drafting a basic block that will only take 30 steps (30 mins) from BurdaStyle.com http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/constructing-the-basic-bodice-block But as it says on the burdastyle website women with D breast or above will benefit from more measurements because it will provide a more accurate fit.

I have the day off so I hope to have these measurements done by tonight. As I said before I need my mom to help me. More so when it comes the back measurements.

Project 1: Color Blocking

I have always loved the idea of color blocking, so my 1st project will focus on that trend. This Kenzo runway shot shows how much fun you can have with this trend. Darts, gathering, draping and various other pattern manipulations combine to make this trend seem carefree and easy to wear.

The pictures of Leona Lewis also shows a fun and cheeky way to rock color blocking with a classic silhouette.

I would like to marry these ideas, using soft fabrics, pattern manipulation, a timeless silhouette and cheeky fun. I think making a dress will lend itself to this project the best.
And the process begins...

Morgan's Wag of the Finger goes to...

The dumb female I saw last night walking around rocking a Victoria's Secret Pink night shirt as an off the shoulder tunic dress. REALLY!!!!! I am so annoyed at the lack of common sense ppl possess nowdays. This NIGHTGOWN was paired with flip flops and the most elegant of bags, a Louis Vuitton. The Speedy 25 or 30 (The Hood Rat Classic as I call it) that she no doubt brought from a 52nd st vendor. To top off this lovely mental picture for you her shirt read "Sure Thing", I just bet you are sweetie. Because nothing screams Im a whore/easy more than walking around in a NIGHTGOWN with your ass cheeks hanging out the side.
Good Morning

Well,well,well

I've always told myself that blogging was for ppl who had nothing better to do with their time. I guess I have become one of those ppl. Well Ive actually started this blog to see if it can cure my horrid procrastination problem. I have so many things I would like to do or start doing and in a few weeks they just seem to fall by the waste side. So just maybe if I write all ideas and plans down once I am able to look back at the amount of things I have started and failed to finish it will guilt me into following through with things.
Sooo lets see how this thing goes, wish me luck and hellooooooo world
